Fun Facts about Needles

Needles are so important for our projects but we take for granted that we need them. Here are some facts that you may or may not know about needles.

  • Sometimes you might have a hard time threading a needle. Flip it (meaning turn it around by 180 degrees) and try again to thread it. Why? The eye of the needle is punched by a machine. It leaves one side thicker than the other and therefore, harder to push the thread into the eye. It's like magic when it works - flip it around and all of a sudden, your needle threads easily.
  • Did you know that the eye of the needle is smaller as the size of the needle grows? For example, a Size 20 needle has a larger eye that a Size 28 needle. Use the smaller eye needles (Size 26 and 28) for your cross stitch, embroidery, and congress cloth work. The larger eye needles (Size 20,22 and 24) work great on your 13 count and 18 count projects. We recommend the Size 20 count for your 13 count projects with Size 22 and 24 for your 18 count projects.
  • If you are having trouble pulling your thread thru your canvas, try using a larger eyed needle. The large eye punctures the hole a bit more and widens it, allowing your thread to glide thru better. This is an especially good trick when you are working with metallic threads. It helps them ease thru the hole and not fray as much as before.

We sell lots of brands of needles. And we don't recommend one over the other. It's really a personal preference for people. Stop in and we can help you pick a new brand to try.
